The Eastern Hills Journal reports that St. Mary's Church has made a formal proposal to the Hyde Park Community Council for a parking lot at Montieth and Ashmont avenues.
According to church representative Michael Schoeny, the 16-space surface parking lot will be "an attractive and well-landscaped corner and will follow zoning guidelines".
The site was formerly occupied by the Mairose Grocery, which opened in 1938 and was razed in July.

Since when has a surface parking lot made for an attractive corner?
And why isn't the community up in arms about this? They protest a church expansion, but they have no opinion on such a poor land use decision?
