Allen Temple seeking JRS grant for 'smart office' development at Jordan Crossing

Cincinnati City Council has passed unanimously a resolution supporting an application to redevelop Jordan Crossing in Bond Hill.

In May, the Allen Temple Foundation submitted a grant application to the Ohio Job Ready Sites Program (JRS) with the idea of transforming the former Swifton Commons Mall into "smart office", retail, and institutional uses.

The State of Ohio requires a resolution of support by the project site's municipality as part of the application package.

If the grant is approved, the City will provide matching funds of $200,000 for road and traffic signal improvements.

The Allen Temple Foundation will provide $1.05 million, the remainder of the required matching funds.

Grant winners will be announced in late August or early September.

This grant application is one of two being supported by the City, which has made available $500,000 in the 2008 capital budget for JRS applications.

The other application, for $1.4 million for improvements to the I-71/Dana Avenue interchange in Evanston, is considered to be of lower priority.

The Ohio Job Ready Sites Program was created in 2005 after the passage of state Issue 1.

Administered by the Ohio Department of Development, the bond program is meant to boost the state's inventory of available development sites served by utility and transportation infrastructure.
