Cool video here with some annoying commercial to start.
Apologies, but Middle Earth needs to be stopped!
While there are aspects of this building that are amazing (garage doors, etc), there are WAY too many aspects that suck - and suck big time.
The units that face 4th Street, with no balconies have ONE operable window. Hopefully there aren't too many units like this one - you build a brand new building and you design a unit with ONE operable window in the entire place?
Then there's the quality of some of the materials - the base boards need some major work, and I saw a few quality issues (which is totally common) in some of the bathrooms.
Another thing - why build this thing at this location? Could you get those garage doors that open into the space any closer to the highway ramps that have a constant flow of traffic day and night? Wouldn't this have worked a lot better at 7th and Vine? Or around City Hall?
I'm just bummed a great, huge, new building downtown couldn't be better. At least they made the loft spaces with larger ceilings (unlike those at Kinsey or that place in Camp Washington).
Please don't screw up the Enquirer building on Vine!
I think they did a decent job with the site they're working with. When you're working with an urban lot, not everything is going to be ideal as far as fresh air and light.
But I agree with you, Anonymous, on many of the concerns you share. This building really wasn't my cup of tea. I do prefer it to a parking lot, though.
