The College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC) has raised $14,000 since June, allowing them to retain Marty Weldishofer as their part-time paid director.
In May, CHCURC president Mike Cappel said that the mostly volunteer group's funding had been exhausted and that dedicated funds for Weldishofer's salary wouldn't be immediately available.
CHCURC raised over $10,000 at their summer fundraiser, Summer Fete, an Evening of Song, held at Laurel Court at the end of June.
Nearly $4,000 in additional funds were raised through a plea by CHCURC president Mike Cappel posted in the May 21 issue of the College Hill eNewsletter.
Weldishofer has been CHCURC's paid director since 2004, and has worked full-time for the neighborhood since 2006.
Cappel says that the director's position was created to supplement the work of the volunteers with daily, dedicated attention, and credits him with bringing the neighborhood the mixed-use Linden Park development, streetscape and façade improvements, a gateway project, and welcome and wayfinding signage.
With a fundraising goal of $25,000, CHCURC is planning two additional fundraisers for later this year.
The fifth annual 5K Rhythm Run/Walk is scheduled for September 20, and Clovernook Country Club will be holding a celebrity bar tending event on an undetermined date.
