Wrecking Cincinnati, 11/19/09

Two-family
DOB: 1890
Died: June 2009
Cause of death: Decayed interior framing on the lower level, mechanical systems in disrepair, numerous broken windows, gutters and downspouts in disrepair. The property required City barricading on numerous occasions. It was likely abandoned.

A new owner took over the property in 2006, with the house already having been ordered vacant by the City. Apparently, he began rehabbing it, but the project somehow stalled. A criminal case was filed against him in 2007, but was later dismissed.

The house was condemned in March 2007 and declared a public nuisance in October 2007. It was razed by the City following asbestos abatement.

This house may have been a Barber Design. I personally looked at this house (it was in our Knox Hill boundaries) there were no structural issues, PERIOD!

This house would have been easily restored and in fact there were people interested in buying it.

The neighborhood was OUTRAGED that this potentially historic home was Demoed. This house should have had a section 106 Review as Federal monies were used to demo it and it was obviously eligible for Historic status.

One of our Board members talked with the demo contractor workers
and even they said this house should not have been demoed!

A PRIME example of the failure to protect our historic properties and why we need a investigation of city inspections.
