Cincinnati's first ReStore will open this spring in a 35,000-square-foot building in Bond Hill, Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity announced last week.
The non-profit has signed a lease – with an option to buy – for the building at , which will house the retail space, warehouse and training space, and offices.
ReStore specializes in home improvement goods, building materials and supplies, and furniture and appliances. The product is often donated by local retailers, contractors, and individuals.
The new and used donated goods are then re-sold to the public for a fraction of the retail price, which helps fund Cincinnati Habitat's efforts to provide affordable housing to low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
All purchases are tax-deductible.
Until recently, Cincinnati Habitat had to refuse such items due to a lack of storage and retail space.
"We are thankful for the support we've received so far, and we'll be seeking continual support for these efforts," said Tom Salzbrun, executive director of Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity, in a media release. "With the ReStore, we're developing a new revenue stream that will allow all charitable donations made to CHFH to be applied toward building construction. This will help us reach our goal of eliminating substandard housing and improving lives and transforming neighborhoods in Cincinnati."
There are currently 638 ReStore outlets throughout the country, with the closest location in Hamilton.
