Wrecking Cincinnati, 4/21/10

Multi-family
DOB: 1880
Died: July 2009
Cause of death: Damage to the cornice and brick work, missing and broken windows, damaged plaster and cracked walls, water damage, no utilities, raccoon infestation.

The building was condemned in April 2007 and declared a public nuisance in September 2008. Ownership changed during this point, taking its former owner off the hook for a planned criminal case.

The new owner planned to bring the structure up to Vacated Building Maintenance License (VBML) standards, but apparently was unable to do so. It was razed by the City following asbestos abatement.

Cincinnati=The Next Detroit!

The city vacant building task force should be disbanded and the funds currently used for demolition, go to stabilization of properties to be placed in a city LANDBANK!

I do not understand the thinking or lack of - by this city. They are so entrenched in destruction. Hiding behind all these petty nuisance issues like the whole building is going to fall down and kill everybody. "We can't do this, we can't do that, can't can't can't". Stop it! Start thinking you can - and a way will be figured out .
Instead of using the federal money being given to the city to tear down everything that really doesn't need to be - use it to fix up everything - more people would be employed than the two it takes to tear down something.
The act of resurrecting and rebuilding has much more of a positive impact than does tearing down. Who wants to live in a city that is being torn down house by house?
