Megen Construction Company has won a $4.9 million contract for the construction of the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Stage and Event Lawn at Cincinnati Riverfront Park, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Cincinnati Park Board announced yesterday.
Part of the park's second phase, the event lawn will be built at Walnut Street and Mehring Way, adjacent to the planned Moerlein Lager House.
A notice to proceed is likely to be issued by the end of this month, with construction of the stage and event lawn scheduled for completion in May 2011.
Last month, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded an $8.5 million contract for construction of the Walnut Street Grand Stairway and Fountain to Monarch Construction Company, and the development team behind the Moerlein Lager House selected Schumacher Dugan Construction as construction manager.
Scheduled to open in spring 2011, the first phase of the 45-acre, $120 million Cincinnati Riverfront Park also will include a labyrinth, a Bike and Mobility Center, a bike trail, donor wall and promenade, a monument to the Black Brigade of Cincinnati, tree groves, and gardens.
Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Forest Park, Megen Construction Company is a full-service design-build contractor that has been certified by the State of Ohio as a small- and minority-business enterprise.
The firm has worked locally on such projects as the Fountain Square reconstruction, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Great American Ball Park and the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, and the renovation of Macy's corporate offices.

As a local Cincinnati Chiropractor I am so excited for this project to be complete. The bike path is going to be wonderful in the summer.
